Only Natural Pet now makes a raw, frozen meat, bone and organ patty (or “bar”) that does not contain any grains, fruits or vegetables. This really got my attention since the majority of raw frozen foods/grinds they offer, contain at least some vegetables and often fruit as well. When asked if I would like to review them, I was intrigued and said “yes”.
The first thing I noticed and had to laugh at was that the patties are made for cats! The similar patty Only Natual Pet makes for dogs contains: Sweet Potatoes, Apples, Broccoli, Carrots along with the raw meat, bone and organs. They obviously are not aware that dogs are just as much obligate carnivores are as cats are and that neither dog nor cat can properly digest vegetables. That is a whole topic though – for another day.
The patties they sent me came still frozen even after sitting in transit due to storms that delayed delivery and they are formed into nice little individually wrapped patties or “bars”. They are actually the perfect size for an average cat or a toy breed dog and they came in two different “flavors”.
The Featherd Feast contained: Chicken, Turkey, Chicken Heart, Turkey Heart,Turkey Liver, Chicken Liver, Duck, Ground Chicken Bone, Raw Goat Milk, Organic Apple CiderVinegar, Herring Oil, Vitamin E Supplement, ZincAmino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate,Selenium Yeast, Copper Amino Acid Chelate,Manganese Oxide Chelate, Calcium Iodate.
And the Fresh Catch contained: Chicken, Chicken Heart, Chicken Liver, Whitefish, Rabbit, Duck, Ground ChickenBone, Raw Goat Milk, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Herring Oil, Vitamin E Supplement, ZincAmino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate,Selenium Yeast, Copper Amino Acid Chelate,Manganese, Oxide Chelate, Calcium Iodate
So the ingredients seemed to be quite good for a raw ground patty and I happily fed them to my Dogs – However, being Standard Poodles and weighing anywhere from about 40 pounds to 60 pounds, I had to give them each several patties to make a meal. They readily ate them and I kept an eye on their stool which remained normal and consistant with a raw fed dog’s stool – no diarrhea or loose stools at all.
So do I recommend them for dogs and/or cats? Sure! However, be sure to supplement with some glands and organs at least once a week and I would not make them a constant, steady diet, I would just feed them for variety.
I have asked if they plan on making bigger patties or even chubs in the near future but they were not able to disclose the details on their upcoming product launches. However, they did reply with: “As Only Natural Pet continues to establish their presence in the frozen category, they plan to expand their product offerings”. So maybe there is hope.
These two flavors are currently on sale so it is the perfect time to buy a box or two and see how your dogs (and cats) like them.
I would love to hear your feed back and comments on the patties if you do try them. Thank you!
