PET FOOD/TREAT CONSUMER BEWARE!
According to the FDA websiste (http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm241476.htm) January of last year, (2010)Merrick Pet Care recalled their JR Texas Taffy Pet Treats (ITEM # 27077, ALL LOTS UP TO AND INCLUDING 10364) Because of possible salmonella health risk. Yesterday, January 28th, 2011 this recall page was “updated” and the news today from KWTX.com is: “JR Texas Taffy Treats are the focus of a recall because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
No illnesses have been reported, according to the manufacturer, Merrick Pet Care Inc. of Amarillo.
The recall involves 86 cases of 10 oz. Beef Filet Squares for Dogs with best by dates of March 4, 2012.
The treats are sold in plastic bags marked with â€œLot # 10084TL7.â€
Consumers who purchased the recalled product should return it for a full refund, the company said.
Owners of pets that have consumed the recalled product and have the symptoms should contact a veterinarian immediately.
Salmonella can affect animals, and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products.
Healthy people who are infected with salmonella should monitor themselves for such symptoms as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting while others may only have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.
