Essential Facts About Using Essential Oils With Dogs

With reports surfacing all over social media that essential oils can be harmful to pets, I felt it was important that pet owners were better educated and informed. I want to share the facts about using essential oils with dogs (or animals in general) in this new blog series.

  • Are you still thinking of using essential oils with your dog but you are unsure which oils are safe?
  • Do you own a puppy and don’t know if/when it is okay to use essential oils with your pup?
  • Are you wondering  how to tell which essential oils truly are safe?
  • Do you want to know exactly how and when to use essential oils with your dog?
  • Wondering whether it is safe to use essential oils around your bird or cat?

As responsible pet owners and care givers, it’s imperative that you educate yourselves before ever using something as potent as essential oils with your special, beloved dogs. There is a lot of information on the use of essential oils on the Internet, some of which is unfortunately not accurate or reliable. As an animal naturoapth educated, experienced in aromatherapy, I feel obligated to share accurate and important information with you regarding essential oils and their “safety” (or not), how best to use them, when and why.

 Part I

Essential oils are the subtle, aromatic and volatile liquids extracted from the flowers, seeds, leaves, stems, bark and roots of herbs, bushes, shrubs, and tress, through distillation; carefully preserving the wealth of natural constituents inside. Every plant, flower, and root has its own unique properties and benefits, making essential oils a natural way to promote wellness for both our companion animals and ourselves.

According to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chinese manuscripts, priests and physicians were using pure essential oils thousands of years before Christ.

Essential oils are a miracle of nature. These health promoting and life-sustaining aromatic liquids have high vibrational frequencies, known to balance and harmonize the body’s organs and emotions; hence they bring balance and wellness, aid in detoxing, oxygenate the blood and enhance the immune system by creating an environment conducive for total wellness.

Essential oil therapy or as it is most often referred to, “Aromatherapy”, offers more than just aromatic fragrance. Essential oils produce remarkable actions upon the whole being – and the actions are immediate, profound and long-lasting, positively affecting overall health and emotional well-being – mind, body and emotions

Animal Aromatherapy is SO MUCH MORE than just making your dog or a room smell good!

PLEASE NOTE! When I speak of and write about essential oils, I am always and only referring to unadulterated, 100% pure, organically grown and distilled oils – from “seed to seal”.
